Abstract

Polyethylene glycol waxes, with or without softening agents such as glycerine, are mixed with volatile corrosion inhibitors to form coatings or impregnants for wrapping material. The polyethylene glycol may be replaced by polyvinyl alcohol. Typical examples of coating compositions thus formed are :-polyethylene glycol 90% and amylamine 10% ; polyethylene glycol 70%, polypropylene glycol 20% and caprylic acid 10% ; polyethylene glycol 75%, glycerine 10% and 2-ethyl-hexoic acid 15%. Other corrosion inhibitors specified include amines, acids, amine salts, aldehydes and alkyl sulphides.
