848,746. Toothed gearing. MAK. MASCHINENBAU KIEL A.G. Oct. 31, 1958, No. 34993/58. Class 80 (1). In a gear-box for driving the axle 4 of a rail vehicle from a driving-shaft 7, which is arranged at right-angles to and crossing the axle 4, through bevel-gears 9, 10, pinion 12 and gear 13, the housing is divided into upper and lower flanged parts 3, 2 along a single parting line 14 in an oblique plane passing through the centres of axle 4 and the pinion spindle 11 and cutting through the bearing bore 17 of one end of the shaft 7 so as to leave a cut-out of greater width than the diameter of shaft 7 or of a bearing-ring arranged thereon. Disassembly of the gear-box is thereby facilitated by ready removal of the lower half of the casing, leaving the shaft 7 supported in the upper half by bearings 20, 21.
