Abstract

848,686. Moulding loudspeaker cones &c from fibrous pulp. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Feb. 12 1957 [July 5, 1956], No. 20826/56. Class 87(2). In a repetitive dip-moulding process for fibrous material with the use of hollow, porous formes in which the liquid is removed by suction, each repetition cycle includes the immersion of the forme into a body of slurry constituted by a suspension of the fibres for a predetermined immersion period and reconstitution of the slurry by admitting a predetermined quantity of fibrous pulp, compensation of any weight error of the moulded articles found by periodic sampling being effected by altering both the immersion period and the quantity of pulp admitted. In apparatus for moulding loudspeaker cones, a hollow conical form h connected to a suction pump g is connected to a dipping device f and is of adjustable height relative to its support so that the period in which its active surface remains immersed below the level m of the slurry in tank a can be varied. The pulp withdrawn by each moulding operation is replaced from a tank b via pump c under the control of a cut-off valve d operated by a timing device e. Both the length of time for which the valve d is opened during each moulding cycle by the timing device e and the effective dipping period produced by the dipping device f are controlled electrically by a computer i having an input lever j. The latter co-operates with a scale k graduated in units of weight error.
