In a compressed fluid braking apparatus for railway vehicles of a kind having a distributer valve device D and a relay valve device VC, the latter being adapted in dependence upon the supply thereto of compressed fluid from an auxiliary reservoir RA under the control of the distributer valve device D to control in turn the admission to, and its release from, a brake cylinder CF of compressed fluid derived from a main reservoir RP, the apparatus is provided, in addition to the usual brake pipe CG in dependence upon variations of the pressure of compressed fluid in which the distributer valve device D is controlled, a supplementary socalled supply pipe CP which in the same manner as the brake pipe is adapted to be coupled between adjacent vehicles so as to extend continuously down a train of vehicles and from which the main reservoir RP is charged with compressed fluid, whereby the capacities to be recharged from the brake pipe CG following a brake application are relatively small with the consequence that, particularly in long trains, a quicker release of the brakes down the train is possible. The supply pipe CP is charged to double the normal fully charged value of pressure in the brake pipe CG and the supply pipe CP and the main reservoir RP are in permanent communication through one-way check valve CAR. A check valve CL of restrictive flow capacity is inserted in the line between the main reservoir RP and the auxiliary reservoir RA enabling the main reservoir to be charged from the brake pipe CG should there be a failure in the supply pipe CP.
