Abstract

847,542. Lantern shutters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 14, 1958 [Dec. 11, 1957], No. 40427/57. Class 75(4). A studio light in the form of a lantern from which light is emitted through a lens has at least one pair of doors foldable over the front of the lens, the doors being carried on a mounting ring which is rotatable about its axis by rack and pinion means. operable from a remote point. The doors 7 are attached bv friction-lockable hinges 8 to the mounting ring 9 which fits into the semicircular members 5 and 6 attached, the former by spot welding and the latter by screws, to the flange 3 on the lens ring 1. Rotation of the mounting ring is effected by rotation of the pinion wheel 13 attached to the spindle 11 which is carried by a bracket 10 fixed to the half-ring 5. The pinion wheel engages either with slots cut into the mounting ring 9 or, as shown, with a rack 14 formed of helically overwound steel cable and attached to the mounting ring. Remote operation is achieved by the use of a pole whose end has a socket engageable with the head 12 of the spindle. The doors, of which the ring may carry an additional pair arranged to be foldable about axes perpendicular to those of the doors shown, may also be opened and closed by the use of a pole, for which purpose the doors and the pole may each carry means engageable with the other.
