In a brake disc comprising a brake ring 4 made up of interconnected plates 8, 10 having braking surfaces 12, 14 on their outer sides, the inner periphery of the outer plate 10 is connected by an annular integrally formed bell-shaped web 26 with the outer periphery of a supportiug hub 6 of the wheel 36 located adjacent the inner plate 12 whereby substantially balanced thermal characteristics are established in both of said plates through the conduction of heat into the supporting hub and as the inner plate is cooled on its external side by air drawn into the disc and as the opposed sides of both plates are cooled by air blowing between the plates. The spaced plates 8 and 10 are interconnected by radially disposed blades 16 which give the structure the necessary strength and by a plurality of radially displaced vanes serving as auxiliary braces and which provide extensive surfaces for radiating heat generated in the plates 8 and 10 and to implement the blower action of the disc. The vanes 20 are provided with V-shaped notches 22 and 24 in the radially outer and inner extremities of the vanes such that each vane 20 has its widest area in alignment with the central portion of the plates 8 and 10, thereby providing maximum heatradiating surfaces for these areas of shortest distance thereto.
