Abstract
846,199. Egg cartons. KEYES FIBRE CO. Sept. 22, 1958 [Sept. 25, 1957], No. 30164/58. Class 18. A moulded pulp carton comprises a pocketed section 10 hinged to a cover section 12 and in which rows of pockets 14 are separated by alternate rows of posts 18 connected by ribs 16 with half-posts 26 at the end of each row and an opening 50 in the top of at least one of the half posts 26 to which corresponds a button 54 on a flap 52 hinged to the cover section 12 and insertable through the opening 50 so as to project externally. When the carton is closed the buttons 54 are held resiliently in the holes 50 and a square bead 56, which hinges flap 52 to section 12, rests on rim 44 of section 10. The posts 18 each have an upper and a lower inclined side wall area 38, 36 respectively and between them is a junction line 40 positioned intermediate the top plane of the ribs 16 and the top plane of the posts 18 so that the ribs add strength to the carton but do not interfere with the resiliency of the support given to the eggs. In a modification, Fig. 7, part of the button 76 extends inwardly of the outer edge of flap 74 and the opening 80 has an extension 86 in the side wall 84. The carton may be provided with ventilating notches in the top of half-posts 24.
