Abstract
846,111. Centrifugal driers. HOOVER Ltd. May 6, 1957 [May 18, 1956], No. 15666/56. Class 34(2) In a centrifugal clothes drier the spin basket arranged with its axis vertical and within a stationary casing is supported by a shaft passing through the base of the casing, the opening being sealed in a watertight manner by a flexible diaphragm which allows lateral movement of the basket. As shown, the basket 25 is supported inside the casing 23 by a shaft 32, driven through pulley 33 and carried in a self-aligning bearing 37 which allows lateral movement of the shaft. The opening in the bottom of the casing is closed by a corrugated rubber diaphragm 46 moulded on a split metal line 47 and having a lip 48, the whole being sprung into. a cast iron ring 49 welded to the casing. The bearing 64 is sealed by a stationary carbon ring 70 pressed by a spring 71 against a stainless steel cup 74 rotating with the basket. A drain connection 50 is cast integrally with ring 49.
