Abstract

845,530. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. Nov. 24, 1957 [Nov. 28, 1956], No. 36411/56. Class 38 (2). An electrical component, e.g. an electrical winding, is encased in a preformed container which is embedded in moulded insulation. Compressible material may be applied about the outside of the container prior to the application of the moulding material. The primary winding 1 of a current transformer is formed from strip wound edgewise (as shown) or flat and is enclosed in a metal container 2 which is provided with throats 3 to accommodate terminal connections. The container is embedded in cast insulation 5. A window 7 is provided for a magnetic core and/or a secondary winding to be linked with the primary winding. The container 2 is provided with a gap 8 to avoid constituting a short-circuited turn. As an alternative the container may be of insulating material which has a metallized surface. The moulding material may be epoxy or butyl resin.
