The aspect ratio (ratio of height to thickness) of a waveguide damping member is so selected that the gyromagnetic resonance condition is substantially independent of temperature. The variation of gyromagnetic resonance with temperature is offset by the variation of saturation magnetization Ms of the member with temperature, compensation being substantially complete when where # is the aspect ratio h/d # is the angular frequency and y is the gyromatic ratio. The damping member may be a dielectric, e.g. ferrite, and more than one member may be used. The specification refers to the prior art of utilizing a temperature-dependent ferro-magnetic body in parallel or in series with a substantially temperature-constant permanent magnet so that the field intensity is controlled, with a view to temperature compensation, by the temperature-dependent reluctance provided by said body.
