845,137. Liquid level gauges. DUKE & OCKENDEN Ltd., and STUBBS, A. D. Dec. 24, 1958 [Jan. 14, 1958], No. 1336/58. Class 40 (1). A liquid level gauge which measures the pressure head of a liquid comprises, as shown diagrammatically broken into two pieces in Fig. 1, a tube 10 of non-magnetic material closed at its upper end 11, and having a flexible sac 12 attached to its lower end primary and secondary transformer coils 19, 20 surrounding the upper portion of the tube, the lower portion and the sac being filled with mercury 13, which supports a rod 14, of high permeability material the movements of which in dependence on the mercury level, alter the coupling between coils 19 and 20. The space 17 between the tube and rod is filled with a loading liquid, e.g. methylated spirits, to lubricate the rod and to define the lower extent of a gas pocket 18 in the upper part of the tube. The device is encased in a sealing envelope 30 or alternatively may be sealed by dipping in P.V.C., latex &c., and is mounted for mechanical protection and possibly magnetic screening in tube 31 which incorporates inlet passages 34 and screw 36 which may be adjusted to deform the sac and provide zero setting.
