Abstract
845,126. Closure caps. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. Oct. 15, 1958 [Oct. 15, 1957], No. 32158/57. Class 125(3). [Also in Group XXVII] A cap for an I.C.E. crankcase access pipe comprises a welded-up tubular member 6, 12, Fig. 3, with an annular flange 4 having gas flow perforations and secured to the rim of a cup member 1, filter material 14 such as crimped woven wire being provided between the members 1, 12, and optionally inside the member 12, and the tubular member having a recess 10 receiving a felt or synthetic rubber ring 11 for frictional co-action with the access pipe. As shown a plate 9 with gas flow perforations completes the recess 10 but instead the member 6 itself may be rolled or spun to form the complete recess. The member 6 may be dispensed with, the flange 4 being welded directly or via a spaced sleeve 36, Fig. 7, to the member 12, which now has the recess 10. A further modification has the ring 11 facing inwardly in a recess of the sleeve 36, and Fig. 11 shows such a ring in a recess 80 of the member 12.
