Abstract
Synthetic fibres are made by spinning a solution or melt of a fibre-forming material containing one or more styryl dyestuffs free from hydroxy groups, the latter being defined as condensation products of hydroxy-free aromatic aldehydes having the -CHO group attached directly to the nucleus and hydroxy-free active methylene compounds. Exampes describe the addition of one or more of such dyestuffs to (1) solutions of cellulose acetate and triacetate in acetone/methanol and methylene chloride/ethanol respectively, which are dry-spun (2) a solution of chlorinated polyvinyl chloride containing diethyl sulphide in acetone, which is dry-spun, (3) a solution of polyvinyl chloride in cyclohexanone, which is wet spun into a dilute solution of cycohexanene in 2-ethylhexanone, (4) a solution of polyethylene in xylene, which is wet-spun into a butyl alcohol butyl phthalate mixture, (5 a solution in acetone of a vinyl chloride/acrylonitrile coplymer, which is wetspun into water, (6) a solution of poly acrylonitrile in dimethyl formanide, which is wet-spun into glycerol and (7) melts of polyamides e.g. Rilsan and Nylon 66, polyolefines, e.g. polyethylene and polystylene, and polyethylene terephthalate, which are melt-spun. Specifications 595,571, 684,386, 843,643, 843,644, German Specifications 514,421, 515,782, 676,256, 677,641, 824,818, 824,819, 835,172, 865,925, 878,539, 891,120, French Specifications 737,337, 815,168, 1,022,926, 1,038,333, 1,038,334, 1,097,421, U.S.A. Thus, the dyestuff of the formula: <FORM:0843645/IV (c)/1> is made by condensing the dialdehyde of N.N1-diphenyl piperazine with malonic dinitrile in ethanol in the presence of piperidine. A number of other dyestuffs are also specified.
