Abstract

843,624. Electric tests. ROE & CO., A. V. Nov. 21, 1956 [Dec. 19, 1955], No. 36297/55. Class 37. To determine the thickness of non-metallic sheets an A.C. energized coil 13 with a laminated open core is placed in contact with one side of the sheet and a similar coil 14 on the other side of the sheet feeds a moving coil meter 16 through .a bridge rectifier 15, through a range charging switch 18 and a " measure-off-search" switch 17. Switch 18 inserts resistors in series with bridge 15 to vary the measuring range. In the search position of switch 17 the output of rectifier 15 is fed direct to meter 16 a maximum reading of which indicates that the receiver coil 14 is positioned directly beneath the transmitter 13. In the "measure"position a D.C. voltage derived from a second bridge rectifier 25 and a potentiometer 27 is used to back off the receiver output so as to expand the meter scale and thus increase the meter sensitivity. Meter 16 is shunted by a rectifier and resistor in series to prevent the signal from potentiometer 27 driving the pointer backwards when the output of the receiver is small.
