843,614. Nuclear fusion reactors. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. June 17, 1958 [June 19, 1957], No. 19300/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4). In a thermonuclear reactor comprising a torus having at least one insulating gap and having a line within the torus ; wherein there are provided means for sealing, at least partially, the annular space between the lines and the torus from the space within the lines, means are provided for evacuating the space within the lines independently of the annular space whereby the pressure in the annular space may be arranged to be such as to inhibit the tendency for the gap to break down. The sealing need not be gas-tight but may reduce the leak rate sufficiently to allow the annular space to be exhausted to about 0À1 of the pressure within the lines, i.e. to about 0À01 micron ; alternatively the sealing may be gas-tight and the annular space open to the atmosphere. The reactor described is identical with that described in Specification 830,252.
