Abstract

843,417. Valves. DISTILLERS CO. Ltd. Dec. 5, 1958 [Jan. 10, 1958], No. 970/58. Class 135. A valve for controlling high pressure and/or low viscosity fluids comprises a valve body 7 having inlet and outlet ports 10, 11, an expandable capsule 3 filled with a non- compressible, high viscosity liquid, e.g. heavy oil or grease, sealingly clamped around a flanged end between the body and a cover 6 and a plunger 2 unattached to the capsule and movable into and out of it by screw-threaded engagement with the cover The capsule may be formed on its lower face by a frusto-conical sealing member 8 for engagement with a complementary seat 9 or its lower face may engage an upstanding seat about the port 10. Rotation of the plunger from outside the body, causes the combined volume of the plunger and liquid within the capsule to vary to expand or contract the capsule to control the port 10. To fill the capsule a plug 13 in the plunger and a vent plug 17 are removed and liquid is poured into the capsule through bores 14, 15 in the plunger. According to the Provisional Specification the plunger 2 may be replaced by a pipe passing sealingly through the cover 6 which is connected to an hydraulic pump to increase or decrease the volume of the capsule.
