Abstract

An absorbent swab is made from absorbent cellulosic fibres having an average degree of carbonyalkyl substitution which throughout the body averages not more than about 0,35 carbonyalkyl radicals per glucose residue in the cellulose, in order to give it optimum absorption characteristics. The carbonyalkyl radical may be carbonyethyl or carbonymethyl. The fibres may be cotton or fluffed wood pulp.
