[Also in Group XXVIII] The cross - section of an annular sealing gasket of elastomeric material for use in a pipe joint comprises a semi-circular radially outer body portion 21, a waist portion 23 defined by axially inwardly extending annular grooves 24, 25, legs 32, 33 extending radially inwardly and axially outwardly from the waist 23, and a radially inner axial surface 30 having an annular, circumferential channel which in crosssection is a circular arc 31 dividing the legs from each other whereby they are free to expand radially outwardly when contacted by a cylindrical member inserted through the gasket.
