Abstract
841,765. Refining refractory metals. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Dec. 18, 1956 [Dec. 21, 1955(2)], No. 38569/56. Addition to 805,406. Class 82(1) [Also in Group XI] In a modification of the method of the parent Specification, spongy or porous particles of refractory metal are heated while distributed out of contact with one another in an inert gas or liquid medium in a high frequency electromagnetic field. The particles may be passed through a parallel plate induction coil, such as that shown in the Figure in which a conduit is formed by bent copper sheets 1 and 2 separated by non-conductive material 3, the conduit being provided with cooling coils 7 and 8. Power leads 4 and 5 are connected to the copper sheets at one end and the sheets are connected by copper shorting bars 6 at the other end. The particles of refractory metal may be passed through in a gaseous medium or in a fused salt medium such as eutectic mixture of sodium chloride and magnesium chloride.
