In a socket connector, such as a valve-holder, thin, deformable and essentially non-resilient, U-shaped contacts are backed by a body of resilient material which, on insertion of the plug, provides the contact pressure. Fig. 2 shows a contact in the form of a non-resilient strip bent to a U-shape and having lateral lugs 2, 3 which retain it in a bore in a resilient body 5. In a modification, Fig. 8, the base of the U is apertured at 13 for the passage of a contact pin 16 and one leg 11 of the contact is made longer than the other to provide a soldering tag. The contact may be secured in the block by vulcanising. A number of contacts as described above may be provided in a block of resilient material so as to form a multi-contact connector, the block being surrounded by a frame member to prevent undue expansion thereof and such a connector may be rectangular (Fig. 10, not shown) or circular, (Fig. 11, not shown) and the contacts may be circularly arranged so that the connector forms a valve-holder, lateral mounting lugs being provided if desired, (Figs. 12-16 not shown). Fig. 18 shows a construction of valve-holder in which the resilient body 33 surrounded by the frame 39 is integrally connected to a ring 35 having mounting lugs 36 by means of a web 34 which provides a resilient mounting for the body portion 33.
