Abstract

841,363. Cleaning carding machine flats. RIETER & CIE A.G., J.J. April 5, 1957 [April 13, 1956], No. 11230/57. Class 120(1). A card flat stripping apparatus comprises a cylindrical brush 3 having brush wires 10 and means for moving the tips of some of wires 10 along substantially cylindrical paths, such as A, B, or C, the lowest points of which are located between the bottom of the flat and the plane in which the bends 21 of the wires 18 of the flat are located. The brush 3 is rotatably mounted on a hollow shaft 5 carried by a frame 4 pivoted on pins 2 each of which can be selectively located in one of three holes 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP>, and 2<SP>111</SP> in the machine casing 12. Pins 15, 16 are carried by a driven gear wheel rotating about a fixed axis and engage alternately between the teeth of a gear wheel 17 fixed to brush so as to cause periodic movement of brush 3 towards and away from the flat wires 18 while the brush rotates non- uniformly about its axis. This causes the tips 19 of certain brush wires 10 to move along paths such as A, B, or C, according to which hole is used for pivot 2. The pivot point is chosen to provide a path (as shown, path C) the ascending portion of which conforms substantially to the shape of wire 18 so that fibres entrained by brush wires 10 are withdrawn readily from wires 18. The distance between pins 15 and 16 is slightly less than that between the bottoms of successive gaps in gear wheel 17, so that paths A, B, and C have a portion 24, substantially parallel to the bottom of the flat, to enable the brush wires 10 to entrain loose fibres from the bottom of the flat.
