Abstract

841,117. Stator blades for turbines or compressors. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. July 23, 1958 [Aug. 2, 1957], No. 24649/57. Class 110 (3). In a turbine or compressor stator blade comprising a vane 10 and a shroud along the leading edge thereof, the vane has an internal fluid-receiving passage 13 and a series of outlets 14 extending from passage 13 to the leading edge, and the shroud has a nose portion 15 extending around the leading edge in spaced relation thereto and side portions 17, 18 extending partway towards the trailing edge in spaced relation to the vane surfaces joining the leading and trailing edges, the side portions being rigidly connected to said surfaces by spacer means. As shown, the nose portion 15 has internal projections 16 which bear on the leading edge; the spacer means is afforded by narrow flanges 19 around holes in the side portions 17, 18, the holes in each side portion corresponding to the i number of outlets 14 and the flanges being connected to the vane surfaces by welding 20, and outlets 21 are provided from passage 13 to points on the vane surfaces adjacent the trailing edge. The vane is provided at each end with a platform 11 having features 12 by which the blade is supported in the stationary structure.
