Abstract
841,102. Kinematograph film gates. KODAK Ltd. Oct. 28,1958 [Nov. 1, 1957], No. 34445/58. Class 97(1) A film gate comprises an apertured plate 11 and a co-operating pressure pad 28, the whole gate being movable between a projection position (Fig. 5) in which the gate is held in engagement with a support, and a loading position (Fig. 6) in which the gate is tilted forward and displaced laterally with respect to the support, so that the film may be threaded into the gate without interference from the pull-down mechanism. The apertured plate 11 has a plurality of slots 24 which engage with guide lugs 25 formed on the support plate 26 when the gate is retracted into the projection position of Fig. 5. It is held in this position by the pressure pad 28, under the action of a spring-loaded plunger 37 forming part of the lens holder 36. Against one side of the apertured plate 11 bears the arms 18 of a U-shaped spring 19, under tension in this position. The film strip passes between the two parts of the gate, and is transported by a pull-down claw 23 engaging through a suitable slot in plate 11. When loading is required, the gate is pulled forward against the action of plunger 37 until the lugs 25 are disengaged from slots 24, upon which the gate is urged to one side by the spring arms 18, so that it occupies the tilted position shown in Fig. 6. Since it is now clear of the pull-down claw 23, the film 13 may be threaded freely into the gate, until it bears against pins 33 carried by plate 11. Continued gentle pressure on the film against these pins moves the gate back against the action of the spring arms 18, until the slots 24 are again in register with lugs 25, when the plunger 37 once more presses the gate back into the Fig. 5 position.
