Abstract
840,553. Valves. RHYMNEY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd., and PARSONS, G. W. Dec. 12, 1957 [Dec. 20, 1956], No. 38903/56. Class 135. Two fluid flow control valves are actuated together each by one of a pair of opposed pistons slidable in a housing, the pistons having telescopically interengaged annular walls depending therefrom and an actuating fluid pressure being supplied to the space between the pistons to move them apart. As shown, the respective valve closure members 1 and 4 carry opposite plungers 9 and 10 extending into the housing 13 in abutting relationship with the telescopically interengaged pistons 15, 18. The actuating pressure is supplied between the pistons through a ball check valve 25 to move the closure members 1 and 4 outwardly against return springs in the valve opening and closing directions respectively, fluid pressure from the downstream side of the open valve member 1 being also communicated to the space between the pistons through a bleed 21 to hold the valves in the actuated position and permit removal of the original actuating pressure. The valves are returned to their original position by venting this holding pressure through a ball vent valve 26 which is opened by a control pressure applied to a control piston 34 of the vent valve. The ball check and vent valves and the bleed 21 may be omitted, and the actuating pressure supplied through an open inlet so that on removal of this actuating pressure the valves return to their original position.
