Abstract

In an X-ray detectable swab the opaque thread is made from viscose rayon or cellulose acetate which incorporates a material such as bismuth oxide or barium sulphate. In preparing the thread an aqueous suspension of the barium compound is added to the spinning solution prior to spinning and forms preferably between 10 and 20% by weight of the finished thread. Specifications 640,541 and 736,685 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 790,417.
