Abstract

839,139. Windscreen cleaners. TRICOFOLBERTH Ltd. Nov. 7, 1958 [Nov. 7, 1957], No. 34776/57. Class 138 (1). A windscreen wiper arm consists of a head for attachment to the oscillating shaft of a wiper, an inner arm portion which is pivotally connected to the head, and an cuter arm portion secured to the inner arm portion by a wedge which is urged by a compression spring into engagement between the outer arm portion and part of the inner arm portion. As shown, a channelshaped inner arm portion 6 is pivoted at 4 to a head 2 and a yoke 12 pivotally attached thereto carries a rod 14 surrounded by a spring 16 the pressure of which on a wedge 20 can be varied by a nut 18. Wedge 20 engages between a bush 24 and a strip 26 of the outer arm, locking strip 26 against inner arm 6. The strip 26 may have notches to receive the outer end of the wedge 20 in different settings of the arm. When manually cleaning the windscreen the wipers can be swung away therefrom through 90 degrees until edge 29 abuts a shoulder 28.
