Abstract

838,410. Ramps for loading vehicles. SLINGSBY Ltd., H. C., and SLINGSBY, G. Aug. 7, 1956 [Aug. 4, 1955], No. 22462/55. Class 78 (4). The runways 1, Fig. 1, forming a ramp for loading a vehicle are separate and are formed at their upper ends with means for connecting them independently to the vehicle V. Each runway is adapted to guide the rollers 2, 3 of a truck 4 and, in the form illustrated, is of channel section. Stops 11 welded within the channels are adapted to engage the smaller wheels 3 of the truck shown when the larger wheels 2 have reached the ground, and further stops 7 engage the larger wheels 2 when the smaller wheels 3 are about to leave the vehicle. Each stop 7 comprises an angle-section member 7, Fig. 5, welded to a bent pin 8 adapted to pass through any of several holes 1<SP>11</SP> in the runway. A chain 9 holds each stop 7 captive. The base of each channel may be extended at its upper end and is welded to a plate 5 terminating in a pin 6 taking into a socket on the vehicle. The flanges of each runway are flared at the upper and lower ends. The runways may be curved convexly upwards so that the upper portion of each runway is tangential to the vehicle platform. The stops 11 as well as the stops 7 may be adjustable. Specification 699,025 is referred to.
