Abstract

837,943. Heating steam boilers by waste gases. BABCOCK & WILCOX CO. Oct. 7, 1958 [Oct. 8, 1957], No. 31928/58. Classes 123(2) and 123(3) [Also in Group XII] A steam generator is heated in part by the gases given off during the reactivation by oxygen of a catalyst used in refining petroleum. The gases are introduced tangentially at the bottom of a furnace chamber through outlets 49, and rise into the combustion zone of burners 41 using fuel oil or natural gas. The combustion gases are directed to one side of the upper part of the furnace by a refractory baffle 23, cooled and supported by tubes 25 connected to a U-shaped manifold 26. Heat exchange tubes 20 within the upper part of the furnace and the outlet 12 are connected between a drum 17 in the roof 21 and a drum 18 above the baffle 23. Tubes 27 form a screen above which are the pendant tubes 31 of a superheater. Superheated steam from the outlet header 34 passes in part to an attemperator 36 in the lower drum 18, and part by-passes the attemperator through a pipe 40. An economizer 15 in the outlet path of the flue gases is connected to the upper drum 17.
