Abstract

837,911. Packages ; unpacking; boxes. CARR FASTENER CO. Ltd. March 21, 1957 [April 26, 1956], Classes 18 and 94(1). A package comprises a box, Fig. 1, provided with a slidable base 4 and formed with vertical partitions 2 defining compartments for the reception of stacks of valve holders or often electrical components which are required to be assembled on a panel, each stack resting on the base 4. The latter is formed with guide flanges 5 which engage the opposed side walls 1a of the box. Alternatively, the base may be slidable in transverse slots in the end walls 1b, in which case the flanges are omitted. The upper end of the box is provided with a cover 3 having a flange 3a which may be bent up to allow it to be withdrawn by sliding when it is desired to inspect the contents of the compartments. In use, the package is supported in a hopper 8, Fig. 3, having a base plate formed with apertures 8a which are aligned with the compartments a and are large enough to allow a stack of components to descend freely into a shoot 10 when the lower end of its compartment is uncovered by withdrawal of the base 4. An endless conveyer 11 is operated to position a panel 12 beneath the shoot so that a series of apertures 13 therein are aligned with terminals on the components, and an escapement mechanism associated with the shoot is then operated to allow the lowermost component to fall on to the panel so that its terminals enter the apertures. The operations are repeated with succeeding panels until the first stack of components is exhausted, and the hopper is then moved to position the next compartment over the shoot. If the panel is formed with a series of apertures for the reception of several components, it is moved in steps beneath the shoot. The box may be formed with two or more rows of compartments arranged side by side and a corresponding number of shoots provided to enable several components to be fed simultaneously to the panel.
