Abstract

837,476. Electric tests. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD, CUMMINGS, W. G., and REDFEARN, M. W. Feb. 12, 1958 [Feb. 12, 1957], No. 4706/57. Class 37. A conductivity cell suitable foi use in apparatus for determining the concentration of sulphur dioxide in air, of the kind in which the air is passed through a solution containing hydrogen peroxide and the conductivity of the solution is measured to ascertain the amount of sulphuric acid formed therein, comprises an outer glass tube 10, the top end of which is sealed by a bung 13, and two concentric tubular platinum electrodes 15, 17, the former attached to part of the inner surface of the tube 10, and the latter held on a glass rod 18. The solution under test is passed in at the bottom end 11 of the tube 10, between the electrodes, and out of a branch tube 12, while leads 16, 19, from the electrodes are connected in a circuit containing a recording milliameter as disclosed in Specification 837,479, the cell preferably being maintained in a thermostatically heated compartment to minimize temperature variations. The cell constant may be adjusted by varying the extent to which the inner electrode is disposed within the outer electrode.
