Abstract

836,297. Making pivots for knitting needles; punching; welding by pressure. TORRING- TON CO. March 11, 1958 [Jan. 23, 1958], No. 7740/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group VIII] The latch 10 of a knitting needle is secured and pivoted in the bearing slot formed in the shank of the needle, by punching two tongues 14, 16 from the side cheeks of the slot and pressing them together inwardly within the pivot hole formed in the latch. The two tongues are then welded together by producing sufficient heat directed from the same punches 12, 13 as form the tongues.
