Abstract

835,056. Packaging ; portable containers ; container closures. PAPER CAP MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. May 13, 1958 [May 14 1957], No. 15272/57. Classes 66, 94(1), 125(2) and 125(3). A container 1 having a rim 3 around its mouth formed with an endless groove 4 surrounding the mouth, is closed by a sheet of frangible material 5 adhesively secured to that part of the rim 3 that lies outside the groove. The container is opened by cutting through the sheet 5 along the line of the groove 4. The container may be of polystyrene and the sheet 5 may be paper coated or impregnated with polystyrene so that it can be fused to the container under pressure by a heated tool 7. A snap-on lid, Fig. 1 (not shown), is retained in position by elastic engagement with the rim 3. The container has an annular shoulder 2 to facilitate nesting when empty. The space left within the container, when filled, is sterilized before application of the sheet 5. Specification 817,445 is referred to.
