Abstract

835,029. Travelling-wave tubes. SIEMENS & HALSKE A. G. Sept. 21, 1956 [Sept. 22, 1955], No. 29004/56. Class 39(1). A flux-guide 3 is completely interrupted at 4 to provide for coupling to a wave-guide and the cross-sectional area of the gap 4 is enlarged, as by discs 6, 7 to make the reluctance per unit length of the gap equal to that of the tube. Discontinuity in the magnetic field is thus avoided. As shown, four permanent magnets 1 are arranged in crosses at each end of the guide and their ends are joined by soft-iron bars 2. The discs may be flat as at 7, or shaped with thickness decreasing outwardly as at 6.
