[Also in Group XXVII] A transducer for measuring the pressure inside an I.C. engine cylinder comprises a spark plug in which the barrel 11 is reduced in thickness to make it sensitive to the cylinder pressure, and has wound on it an axial wire strain gauge 13 and a circumferential wire strain gauge 14, the gauges being connected in adjacent arms of a D.C. bridge whose unbalance current therefore indicates the variation of resistance of strain gauge 13 with pressure, as compensated by strain gauge 14 for variation in resistance with temperature.
