Abstract

834,137. Inhalers. BIRCH, H. M., and GATTONE, D. H. Feb. 18, 1957, No. 5419/57. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group XXVIII] A portable apparatus for the self administration of oxygen or powdered medicament comprises an expandible pressure container 12 for the oxygen or powder and having a rigid tube 11 insertable in the nipple 14 of a rubber mask 10 having an open end 10a adapted to fit over the face, an air inlet valve 20 and outlet valves 22. The flow of oxygen or powder to the mask is controlled by a valve head 27 carried by the tube and normally biased to its closed position against a rubber grommet 24 by a spring 29 interposed between the grommet and an operating member 30 secured on the tube. In operation, the user opens the valve by pressing downwards on the member 30 and inhales a mixture of oxygen or powder and air.
