Abstract
834,014. Feeding webs. DYNAMIT ACTIENGESELLSCHAFT VORM. A. NOBEL & CO. June 20, 1956 [June 29, 1955], No. 19097/56. Class 100(1) [Also in Group XXIX] In apparatus for correcting lateral deviations of a running web 2, a roller 1, which applies tension to the web by the action of fluid pressure on one side of pistons connected by rods to the ends of the roller, is tilted to correct a deviation by fluid pressure on the other sides of the pistons, this latter pressure being controlled by a valve operated by a detector engaging the edges of the web. As shown, the axis of rotation of the tension roller 1 around which the web 2 passes is tilted, in response to lateral deviations detected by a feeler 31 having web-engaging prongs, by piston rods 3, 4 connected to each end of the roller 1. The piston rods 3, 4 carry pistons 5, 6 slidable in cylinders 7, 8. Constant pressure is transmitted from a pressure bottle 16, via pipes 13, 14 and 15 to the outer faces of the pistons, while a variable pressure, dependent on the position of the feeler 31 is applied to the opposite faces of the pistons 5, 6. The position of the feeler 31 controls the setting of a valve 26 having pistons 27 carried by a piston rod 29. The pistons 27 have oblique faces 28 co-operating with orifices 24, 25, such that the position of piston rod 29, as determined by the feeler 31, controls the opening and closing of such orifices. The rod 29 can be rotated by a handle 37 so as to vary the circumferential positions of the faces 28 in relation to the orifices 24, 25. A pump 21 supplies fluid to tapering nozzles 19, 20 connected at their narrowest points to the cylinders 6, 7 and at their outlets to the orifices 24, 25 of the throttle valve. Movement of the feeler 31 due to web deviations operates the valve 26 to cause variations in the fluid flow in the nozzles 19, 20 and thus to alter the pressures in the spaces 11, 12 behind the pistons 5, 6 and effect movement of the pistons and the roller 1 to correct the deviation.
