Abstract

The invention comprises a tri-(b -hydroxyethyl) ether of rutin and process for its preparation by reacting rutin at an elevated temperature with at least three molecular proportions of ethylene chlorohydrin in the presence of at least three molecular proportions of an alkali, e.g. sodium hydroxide, and preferably under nitrogen. The reaction is preferably effected between 55 DEG and 75 DEG C. in aqueous solution, the product being acidified, water evaporated under vacuum the residue dissolved in boiling methanol and the rutin derivative precipitated by concentration or by addition of absolute ethanol.
