Paddle 4 is rotated in hopper 1 by air motor 2 supplied by compressed air passing thereto through valve 6 and pipe 5. Variation of level of material in the hopper varies the resistance to rotation experienced by the paddle and therefore the pressure of the air entering the motor, so that pressure gauge 8 indicates the level, and may control it. The paddle may be horizontal.
