Class 79(5) [Also in Groups XXX and XXXVII] In a vehicle having a steering control member or plough 1, Fig. 1A, movable into or out of engagement with a fixed guide track 8, the plough 1 is automatically raised to the inoperative position while the vehicle is travelling by a motor 25 which is controlled through a projecting means on the vehicle engaging an actuating member fixed at the required location along the track. In one example the electric motor 25 raises or lowers the plough 1 through a worm and worm gear 26, 26<SP>1</SP>, lever 27 and rod 29 and is controlled from a double pole switch (see Group XXXVII) on a rocking shaft attached to the tramcar roof and carrying push rods which are engaged by ramps along the track. A double limit switch 41, 41<SP>1</SP> attached to the lever 27 automatically cuts off the supply at opposite ends of the stroke. A lost motion connection 28, 60 permits the plough 1 to follow unevenness in the track. The electrical system may be replaced by an equivalent pneumatic motor and valve system. In one example the plough 1, Fig. 2, is lifted to its inoperative position by a pneumatic piston 45 through a connecting rod 46. Control of the piston is obtained through a valve 44 which is rotated to supply compressed air to the cylinder 43 by a push rod 49 engaged by a ramp (not shown) along the track and coupled to the valve through a transverse shaft 69 and linkage 72, 75. A spring 82 restores the valve 44 to exhaust the cylinder 43 after the shoe has been locked in the raised position by a latch 53 described in Specification 832,743.
