Abstract

832,242. Electric tests. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. Jan. 14, 1958 [Nov. 30, 1956], No. 36650/56. Class 37. In a dimension indicating device of the type in which the clearance between members is measured by means of electrical discharge or electrostatic capacityresponsive apparatus, to avoid changes in the indication, caused by variations in the state of the gas in the clearance space, a fluid of substantially constant dielectric properties is maintained in the space. In the device shown, the probe unit which may be as described in Specification 746,045, and comprises a central insulated wire 1 is mounted in a plug 7 which is screwed into a turbine casing. Air supplied through tube 9 serves both to cool the probe by passing downwardly between tubes 10 and 11 finally escaping at 11a and to maintain the properties of the gas adjacent the probe constant by discharging around the tip of the probe at " A."
