Abstract

832,222. High vacuum apparatus. COUNCIL FOR SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH. June 27, 1957 [June 28, 1956], No. 20058/56. Class 71. [Also in Group XXIX] An isolation valve in a continuously pumped vacuum system is controlled by an air admittance valve, which is normally held closed by the operation of the pump and opens when the pump fails, comprises a piston 17 slidable under the pressure of air admitted by the admittance valve, from a normal portion (shown), in which it is sufficiently clear of a port 16 in the cylinder wall leading to the pump to allow communication with end port 14 leading to the vacuum system which may include a diffusion pump to an actuated position in which the piston seals off the port 14 and allows port 16 to communicate with port 12 at the other end of the cylinder, which port leads to the air admittance valve.
