Abstract

832,066. Automatic voltage control systems. WARD, E. E., and SABAH, N. H. July 2, 1957 [July 10, 1956], No. 21281/56. Class 38 (4). The output voltage of a self-excited generator is controlled by a transistor in series with the field winding. The generator may be either an A.C. or a D.C. generator, and may form the exciter of a controlled alternator. The field winding of the exciter is connected across the armature through the transistor T1. The base of the transistor is connected to a potential divider R2, R3 across the armature. The values of R2 and R3 are chosen from criteria discussed in the Specification. The emitter/ base voltage is controlled by a second transistor T2 in turn controlled by an undisclosed voltage error detector responsive to the output voltage of the alternator. If the generator is used to supply an external load instead of as an exciter, the voltage error detector is connected across the load.
