Abstract

831,404. Cooling systems for internal combustion engines. TACCHELLA Inc. April 1, 1958, No. 10454/58. Class 64(3) A cooling system for a plural cylinder internal combustion engine 5 having a single inlet 6 to circulate coolant around the cylinders, and a separate coolant outlet 7 opening upwardly from each cylinder, comprises a steam separator chest 8 above the engine, into which the outlets 7 discharge and wherein condensate from these discharges collects, a conduit 19 to conduct this condensate to the coolant inlet 6, an auxiliary separator chest 9 connected at least to the upper portion of the chest 8 (e.g. by a conduit 17) and preferably also (and as shown) to the lower portion of the chest 8 by a conduit 18, a conduit 20 to conduct condensed coolant from the auxiliary chest 9 to the coolant inlet 6 and a steam condenser 25 disposed in the upper steam portion of the auxiliary chest 9. In the form shown, the condenser cooling water circuit 13 includes an air-cooled radiator 11 and an oil cooler 14. Any air or other non-condensible gases in the system are discharged through a thermostatically controlled vent 30 located in the chest 9. U.S.A. Specification 2,804,860 is referred to.
