A cable for controlling the power shovel of Specification 779,312 passes from the electrical supply through aperture 14 of winch drum 10 and is then wound around the drum surface 11 (Fig. 1, not shown), the uniformity of winding being assisted by a groove 17 formed in the sloping edges 20 of projections 18 raised upon the drum surface and by flange 15.
