831,026. Draught excluders &c. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Dec. 2, 1957 [Dec. 14, 1956], No. 37459/57. Class 20(3) [Also in Group XIII] In a method of manufacturing gaskets 14, for refrigerator cabinets &c. having therein magnets to retain the gasket on its seating an elongated body 18 of rubber or vinyl plastic is formed by an extrusion die 31 to have a continuous longitudinal opening 32 in the wall 26 and the opening is enlarged by spreader plates 36, 37 to permit insertion of permanent magnets 17 into the body 18, the magnets being connected into a continuous belt by an elongated tape 39 prior to assembly and then fed from a shoot 41 under a roller 42. The portion 28 of the body returns to its natural shape to overlap the magnets assisted by an idling roller 43 and is then engaged by a heated blade 44 to render it adhesive whence it passes between rollers 47 which press together tacky parts 27, 28 to seal the magnets Within the gasket. In a modification, Fig. 8, interlocking wall portions 54, 56 interengage and avoid the use of the heated blade 44.
