Abstract
A polyester film to which a coating of an organic hydrophobic film-forming material will adhere, and which is receptive to marking with ink or pencil, is produced by treating the surface of a polyester film with an aqueous solution of an inorganic alkaline hydroxide to effect overall pitting or corrosion of the surface. The polyester film, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate film, may be stretched to impart dimensional stability prior to the treatment. Alkali-metal or alkaline-earth metal hydroxides may be employed as the inorganic alkaline hydroxide.
