830,745. Sound directing appliances. QUENNELL, A. M. June 7, 1957 [June 8, 1956], No. 17856/56. Class 13. In a sound directing arrangement, a sound reflecting surface 1, Fig. 1, is constituted by the partial revolution of a portion of a parabola 2 about an axis 3 intersecting the parabola axis 5 at the focus 4, the angle of revolution determining the dispersion zone of sound which is produced by a conical loud-speaker positioned on the axis of revolution with its apparent point source of sound located at the parabola focus. The axes 3 and 5 intersect at right-angles, and in one arrangement the angle of revolution may be 180 degrees, as shown in Fig. 2, so as to provide sound dispersion over a similar angle. Constructional details are disclosed, Fig. 3, in which the loud-speaker is mounted in the top wall of a totally enclosed or a vented box 10, the reflector 1 being suspended above the loudspeaker and providing horizontal sound dispersion through a predetermined zone.
