830,741. Gas turbine plant. SPALDING, D. B. Aug. 13, 1956 [Aug. 24, 1955], No. 24352/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXVIII] Power production apparatus includes a gas turbine and a pressure exchanger having a scavenge stage and a heat extraction stage, the latter having means positioned to cool gas therein and an inlet duct arranged to introduce to the cells gas received from the turbine at a pressure below atmospheric pressure, the turbine receiving gas at substantially atmospheric pressure; the gas may come from the final stage of a turbine in which gas is expanded from atmospheric pressure. Cooling may be by a heat exchanger or by water spray, in the latter ease no outlet duet need be provided from the pressure exchanger at the heat extraction stage; heat exchange may be arranged between the expanded gas and the scavenge gas; transfer passages may be used and may include cooling means. The gas supply to the turbine may be heated. Scavenge may be controlled by a valve in a by-pass pipe between inlet and outlet. The pressure exchanger may be driven by the turbine or a separate motor.
