830,728. Hydraulic actuation of switches. JACOBSENS ELEKTRISKE VERKSTED A.S., N. June 25, 1958 [June 25, 1957], No. 20439/58. Class 38 (5). An hydraulically - operated switch suitable for traffic registration comprises a bottleshaped housing 5 whose neck contains a cylinder 9 and a movable piston 8 having a tiltably-attached disc 7 for bridging contacts 6. The housing 5 is connected by a tube 4 to a steel container acted on by pressure (Fig. 1, not shown), the whole system being filled with an insulating liquid 11, and a gas bubble 12 absorbing the volume variations of the tube system. A clearance between the piston 8 and cylinder 9 forms a by-pass to equalize the pressure between members 4 and 5, after a pressure wave has lifted the piston, the turbulence of such a wave being fully utilized by the axiallyvarying cross-section of the piston 8. Alternative forms of by-pass may be provided and the whole pressure system may be either open or closed to the atmosphere.
