Abstract

830,591. Suction cleaners. HOOVER Ltd. May 23, 1958 [June 6, 1957], No. 16592/58. Class 8(1). Shifting of the agitator drive belt 17, Fig. 1, from the fan shaft 18 of an operator-propelled suction cleaner is effected by rotating about its axis a tubular guide 36 in line with the fan inlet 13, Fig. 5, resulting in the belt being wrapped round the outside of the guide 36 leaving the tubular passage 42 free of obstruction. The outer end of the passage 42 may be closed by a cover 45 which when removed allows insertion of a converter tube 76 having its inner end 79 in sealing engagement with the fan inlet 13. The inner end 38 of the belt guide 36 is recessed at 57, Fig. 3 (not shown), to receive the belt run 59 as the guide is inserted, the trailing end of the recess being undercut to retain the belt run as the guide is rotated about a mounting flange 29 by means of a handle 44. Prevention of the insertion of the converter tube 76 until the belt has been lifted and prevention of back rotation of the belt guide until the converter has been removed is effected by interlocking detent 49, Fig. 7 (not shown). Nozzle height adjustment is effected by a screw 9 acting on a crankshaft 26 carrying front wheels 24. On removing the dust bag 22 a blower attachment may be connected to the fan exhaust part 21.
